Visit from the Bank of England

On Monday 25th July Clive Bassett and Roy Wilding hosted a visit from Charles Bean who is the Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy of the Bank of England.  Charles was accompanied by Jonathan Rand, his Private Secretary, Stephen Collins, the Bank's Regional Agent for the South West and Geoff Harding, the Deputy Agent for the South West.

Charles Bean is a member of the Monetary Policy Committee and Financial Policy Committee with specific responsibility with the Bank of England for Monetary Policy; the highest profile area of his role being as a member of the meeting which votes on changes to the Base Rate.

During the hour long meeting Clive and Roy were asked extensive question about Beard, it's market, it's customers and the outlook.  The discussion focussed on the tough economic climate and the pressures on the Estimating teams and Project teams to successfully win work, and then deliver a profit from that work.  Roy was able to highlight the price pressure whilst Clive covered the wider topics of the market and the economy.

Charles uses discussions such as this meeting to help form his opinion on the economy and the actions the Bank of England should take.
