Case Study - Lindsay Court Apartments, High Wycombe
Three-storey apartment block completed on time and in budget
Beard managed all aspects of the design and build of this contemporary apartment block on a brown field site close to the centre of High Wycombe.
Constructed in 61 weeks the three-storey building provides 23 high quality apartments with a mix of one and two bedroom layouts. Parking areas with associated access, storage for bins and cycles, together with landscaping, completed the scheme.
Built as one block around an open courtyard with parking to the rear, the building is a traditional construction using a steel frame and standing seam roof. External facings combine brick, cedar cladding and stone render to soften the impact of the building and lend a modern feel. The building also features large areas of glazing and balconies on the first and second floors.
As a design and build solution the team were able to look at the 'buildability' of the project, suggest opportunities for value engineering and improve design elements to achieve the client's objectives.
Challenges & Solutions
A pro-active approach was required by the team to claw back time following unavoidable bad weather delays over the winter period and to accommodate delayed utility connections including water supplies.
"Beard was responsive and helpful and the project worked out well. Their professional approach combined with a good understanding of our requirements meant a positive working relationship throughout the construction .”
