Steve was also runner-up in the category for projects over £1m, for Warriner School, Bloxham, Oxfordshire, where he managed the construction of a new assembly hall and changing facilities.
John Gill, Facilities Manager at Warriner School praised Steve for his problem solving and said:
“Steve is a can-do man and, as such, he certainly made a huge contribution to the smooth running of the projects at The Warriner. In virtually every area of his work, Steve demonstrated an ability to manage everything that was thrown his way. In particular, Steve understood the problems of running a large building site in the middle of a fully operational, busy and crowded school.
I cannot remember a problem to which Steve did not find an answer. He maintained regular communication with my site manager and I and issues were dealt with promptly, efficiently and entirely to our satisfaction.”
Nick Bradley was awarded runner-up in the category for projects under £1m. This was for the stone renovation and cleaning of the Ashmolean Museum and Taylorian Institute for the University of Oxford.
The successful delivery of external fabric repairs to the west wing of the Ashmolean Museum led to further phases of work covering the entire facade. This included the sympathetic repair and replacement of stone, the cleaning of cast iron rainwater systems, replacement of metalwork, glazing and woodwork, roof repairs and the installation of security and pest control systems. This project also won an Oxford Preservation Trust Award in 2007.
Charles Hendry, Senior Team Leader, University of Oxford Estates Directorate said:
“As the Ashmolean Museum and Taylor Institution are landmark buildings for the City and the University, particular emphasis was placed on achieving a high quality of work, which Nick achieved by careful selection of specialist sub-contractors including selecting particular operatives who had worked successfully on an earlier phase of the work. Quality control was achieved by preparing small sample areas for approval (particularly for stone cleaning and restoration) and this process was followed throughout the project.
Throughout the duration of the project it was clear that Beard’s site team, managed by Nick, provided a very positive and flexible approach with a proactive attitude who were happy to work alongside the University and around operational difficulties.“
John Youle Beard Oxford Construction Manager said:
“This is a tremendous achievement for Steve and Nick and is a just reward for all the hard work they have put in on site for our customers.
Whilst they are the focal point on the project as the ‘captains in the field’ they are reliant on support from their team, i.e: colleagues, subcontractors, consultants and our customers.
The award also recognises the investment in our people and our commitment to increasing our capability as we grow so that we can continue to provide an excellent service to our customers. Congratulations to Steve and Nick.”
