Committed People

People are at the heart of any construction business and it is the passion and commitment that Beard brings to delivering exceptional, high quality, solutions that is  the key reason why so many of our customers return again and again.

At Beard we take pride in our people and their achievements. We place high importance on recruiting talented people and providing them with the training and opportunity to succeed.  We take pains to create an environment where each employee has a sense of personal ownership in the company’s success.

Professional development

Professional development at all levels is fundamental to this, strengthening our expertise across construction disciplines and business practices – enabling the company to consistently deliver the highest qualities in terms of customer service, workmanship and project delivery.

We invest significant time in developing our people, assessing individual requirements on a regular basis and providing relevant training.  Indeed we are working with industry experts to bring coaching and mentoring to all our managers and supervisors.  Not surprisingly, many of our most trusted and effective employees started their careers as trainees with Beard.

Getting the right team

Our commitment to employee development means we can always offer each customer the right mix of skills and experience with people who understand how to translate our customers’ requirements into effective construction solutions.

Beard is an accredited Investor in People.  We were one of the first construction companies to achieve IiP Profile status against the new standard and we supported the IiP pilot for new ways of working in 2007.  We also fund and develop employee skills and knowledge through our training partnership with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).  Each year we take on many trainees who receive personal support from our Chairman, fellow staff and managers.

The majority of our managers are CIOB-qualified or working towards membership. We also encourage all members of our site workforce to gain registration with the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS). This is reflected in our support for the Government Skills Pledge programme in which we were a launch partner.

Above all teamwork is in our genes. It’s part of our culture. Our commitment to collaborative, open and friendly working leads to better knowledge sharing between disciplines and departments, greater innovation and an ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively. This same approach lies at the heart of the successful long term relationships we build with our clients and partners.

Project: Extension to form new care home

“We were delighted with the quality of their work and by the very positive and effective communication which existed between the key players involved.

Indeed, the willingness of the Beard management team to go that little bit further to ensure that issues were quickly resolved played an important part in the success of the project."
