New Skills Centre for Lord Williams's

A Beard team have completed a new Skills Centre at Lord Williams's School, Thame, near Oxford, which will provide an important Engineering and Construction facility for students.  The new centre, adjacent to the School’s existing Design and Technology Faculty, will enable the school to offer a larger range of vocational and academic courses, for students of all abilities.

A key challenge for the construction team was creating 15 m deep complex foundations and the reinforced slab while ensuring the highest health and safety requirements were observed while working at the heart of the school.

The steel framed building will provide a range of facilities including multi-use workshops with preparation and storage areas, as well as additional Design and Technology areas.

Ex-pupil and contracts manager for Beard Jason Fenlon, who has successfully overseen the build, is on the fund raising committee to help raise the funds to equip the new workshops in time for the new academic year – but they’ve still got £190,000 to go.

Jason said: ”Beard is delighted that this college will be training up more young people for the construction industry and I am personally pleased to spend time helping to raise funds for this worthwhile project – especially as I did my A levels in the old technology centre!”

Amanda Sturdy, Premises Manager for the school added: “I enjoyed working with the team, they were very helpful in ensuring that inconvenience to the school community and our neighbours was kept to a minimum.”
