| 3 Beard Projects Win Oxford Preservation Trust Awards Pitt Rivers Museum entrance way Sheldonian Theatre’s ceiling conservation and repair Radcliffe Science Library Link Oxford, 7 October 2009: Beard Oxford were celebrating last night after having been involved in three out of 14 award winning projects: the new entrance way for the Pitt Rivers Museum; the conservation and repair of the famous ceiling at the Sheldonian Theatre; and the new Radcliffe Science Library Link, an example of marrying modern architecture to traditional buildings. John Youle, Director of Beard Oxford said: “These were all challenging projects, calling for a lot of thought and careful planning and care and pride in the work carried out. I think that this is the secret to working in historic buildings, whether it’s restoration or extending sympathetically; we have to work really hard to understand the needs of our customers, and other stakeholders, in order to do it.” John Youle added: “My teams are really delighted that their careful work has been recognised by the society and we, as a firm, are delighted to play a role in conserving, restoring and improving Oxford’s unique built environment.” |
