Kevin Pocock, Senior Buyer

Background

Kevin started his career as a Project and Resources Manager for a local family owned business in Swindon. Since then he has had a variety of procurement roles working on projects from speculative housing development to the channel tunnel rail link. He joined Beard in 2002 as Senior Buyer.

Why do you like working for Beard?

I enjoy working for Beard because the company has given me the opportunity to create a more strategic materials procurement function within the business.

What skills and knowledge do you need to do your job?

A consistent approach is required with both internal customers and suppliers together with fair but firm negotiating skills. I also need knowledge of core building technology and contract law.

If you could change one thing about the construction industry what would it be?

Better detailing of contract information

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love travelling, keeping fit through practicing yoga, playing sport (especially football and running) and hill walking. I have particularly enjoyed the challenges of competing in several half marathons and two full marathons.
