Paul Bridgman with Grass Snake

Back to News Archive

Lydiard site is a haven for wildlife

Keen to preserve natural environments and paying close attention to conservation, Beard Site Manager Paul Bridgman got more than he bargained for whilst he and an Ecologist scouted the Lydiard Millicent School site for protected newts.

Here he is with a grass snake he found in some nearby woodland which is the preferred habitat of the species. They are also strong swimmers and are often found close to fresh water.

They prey almost entirely on amphibians so the presence of newts on the site could be one of the main attractions for them.

Special care will be taken by the site team not to disturb this special eco-system.
