Work experience in full swing at Beard Local construction firm shows students the ropesWork experience programmes are in full swing at Beard, one of just a handful of construction companies to have achieved the Investors in People Gold Standard. The company believes it is crucial to get youngsters interested in construction and to support young people in the Swindon area, each year providing opportunities for students and graduates to get hands on experience of the industry at its local offices in Faraday Road. This year the company has tied up with Dorcan Technology College and Cirencester College as well as local schools to provide two-week work experience placements for 15 and 16 year olds, and, in addition, a 12-week placement programme over the summer college break for two graduates, as part of their course studies. Pictured here (from left to right) are Melanie Hayes, age 16, from Cirencester College, together with Conner Robbins, age 15 and Lauren Mann also age 15 from Dorcan Technology College – three of the students who have taken part. By the end of the year a total of seven students will have benefitted from the programme. Beard Construction Director Marc Bayley said: “As one of the top 1% of companies that have achieved the Investors in People Gold Standard it's essential that we continue to support young people in this way by providing opportunities to see first-hand what our industry offers.“
